Why Is It Called A Clambake?

April 25, 2008 - Leave a Response

Sunday is Emmanuel’s annual clambake, following the Junior-Senior Toast.  However, I’m going to pose the question that I’ve had ever since I got to Emmanuel…why is it called a clambake if there are no clams?  I specifically remember searching for them the first year I was here.  I was disappointed to find out that there are, in fact, no clams present at said “clambake.”  Only hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. I’m going to hold out a little hope that maybe, just maybe, for my senior year Emmanuel can scrounge up some clams.  I’ll try not to be too disappointed if it doesn’t happen though.

Senior Week Sign Ups!

April 25, 2008 - Leave a Response

Senior week events have been announced and it’s time to sign up! For $80 we can attend the Senior Ball, a Harbor Cruise (aka the booze cruise), a night at Jake Ivory’s, a trivia night at Billiards and a dinner after graduation rehearsal.  Seniors living off-campus and seniors who commute also have the option to move back into the dorms that week when the campus turns “wet.”  It should be a great send off and a fun-filled week of festivities.  College is coming to an end and I think a kick ass senior week will be the best closing we could ask for.

Marathon Monday!

April 25, 2008 - Leave a Response

Our last Marathon Monday as college kids.  Hopefully not the last time we’ll be able to watch it while drunkenly cheering on the runners!

My roommate decided to run the marathon this year as a farewell to her college days in Boston.  She trained for months and ran the whole thing in 4 hours and 20 minutes…in an Emmanuel cross country uniform!  We were proud of her, and since none of us were physically fit enough to join her on her run, we decided to throw a party in her honor.  We even bought a grill.  It was a day full of hamburgers, hot dogs and Sam Adams Summer. We caught the elite runners in Coolidge Corner, headed back to the apartment to refuel, and made it back to cheer Lisa on as she passed us.

It was a successful Marathon Monday and by far the best one yet.  Perfect weather and a day spent with my best college friends. Next year definitely won’t be the same!

Graduation Tickets…

April 18, 2008 - Leave a Response

I’m not really sure what’s up with us only getting 3 tickets each for graduation.  I understand Emmanuel is small and there isn’t a lot of room under the tent…but seriously.  It kind of sucks that I can’t even have my whole family watching.  And how are we supposed to decide who is worthy of a seat and who has to sit outside? What if it’s raining? I guess it’s not really my problem…I’ll let my family deal with it. Maybe they’ll draw straws or something..

This Spring’s Lack of a Quad

April 16, 2008 - Leave a Response

Now that the quad is smaller there isn’t nearly as much room to lay out and pretend I’m studying or throw frisbees.  It was definitely way better last year and the year before when we could lay out in the sun in peace and quiet.  Or play wiffleball or frisbee.  Now we have to listen to the construction and worry about our baseballs disappearing into the hole that is now our quad.  I guess we’ll make the best of it…and maybe suffer the loss of a few of our beloved wiffleballs.  But we’ll get through it, and next year everyone will have a nice science building to bounce their tennis balls off of.

Senior Distinction Projects

April 16, 2008 - Leave a Response

The boards are up for this year’s senior distinction projects.  I chose not to do one…however my roommate is a biology major and has been preparing her presentation for months now.  I think it’s important to attend the presentations and support our friends for all of their hard work.  I’m looking forward to watching my roommate present…even though I probably won’t understand what she’s talking about! Good luck and congratulations to all of my classmates that decided to take on a distinction project this year!

It’s Starting to Feel Like I’m a Senior..

April 16, 2008 - Leave a Response

It’s actually starting to feel like I’m a senior.  It took me a while to realize that all of these announcements concerning seniors are talking to me! The Junior-Senior Dinner is coming up on Thursday night.  We’ll get to finally hear what is scheduled for senior week! And we’ll get to be served by the juniors! I didn’t attend the dinner last year, but I’m looking forward to it this year.  It should be a pretty good kick off into our last few weeks of school! Let the countdowns begin.

Junior Senior Toast!!

April 11, 2008 - Leave a Response

It’s that time of year again…Junior Senior Toast is right around the corner.  This year, there’s a facebook group with all of the information.  9 bucks for a t-shirt…and get your money in soon so the orders can be placed!  The event will take place on Sunday, April 27th, at 6:00 a.m. with the Clambake (which doesn’t even have clams, but more on that later) following shortly after.  There’s nothing like a bunch of drunk juniors and seniors running around the quad at noon on a Sunday playing games and eating hamburgers.  Man I’m going to miss college.

Senior Class Gift Guilt Trip

April 11, 2008 - Leave a Response

I want to start off by saying that I think the Senior Class Gift is a great way to contribute and give back to the college that we’ve had such a great experience at.  However, I’ve been feeling pretty horrible about not contributing…but I feel like I speak for many of my classmates when I say that I’m tight on cash.  I would rather spend my extra money on a few more good times with my friends than paying Emmanuel even more.  It is a nice effort though, and a good thing to do if you can swing it.  My parents pulled through and were nice enough to donate money on my behalf.  At least my name will be on the donation list.  Someday, when and if I’m successful, I’ll be sure to thank Emmanuel with monetary donations.

So thank you, Emmanuel, it’s been great…I’ll be sure to send money when I get work.

Mr. Emmanuel

April 11, 2008 - Leave a Response

As my roommate and I were sitting in the Emmanuel gym last night watching the Mr. Emmanuel pageant…she said to me, “I think this might be the most high-school event that Emmanuel has!”  I agreed with her, but then started thinking about how great it is to sit and watch a bunch of our guy friends act like fools in front of a big chunk of the Emmanuel population.  It made me sad to think that in a few weeks there won’t be any more goofy college events to attend.  So congratulations to all of the contestants…it was once again, a great show.  It’s something I’ll absolutely miss about college next year when I’m gone!!
